| Crisis Intervention Team |
In day to day living, people experience a wide range of emotional, psychological and situational difficulties, and on occasion, their ability to cope with stressful situations or mental health issues becomes overwhelming.
We often recommend that before coming to hospital, a person communicate with the Mobile Crisis Team, provided by Durham Mental Health Services. This team may be contacted at 905-666-0483, 24 hours a day. This team is highly skilled in providing crisis services, and is also knowledgeable about when a person should be brought to hospital for medical and psychiatric reasons.
A person in a crisis situation may suddenly experience any of the following: overwhelming emotions, anxiety, sadness, depression, guilt, shame, fear, feelings of hopelessness, feeling of worthlessness, significant changes in eating and sleeping patterns, inability to concentrate, difficulty fulfilling their responsibilities, and loss of control over their life.
A person may also experience thoughts of self harm, including thoughts or plans of suicide. These are very serious situations and in some cases it is important to call the Police and/or the Ambulance. Other concerning thoughts or behaviours would include violence, extreme depression, thoughts or behaviours toward harming others, or experiencing a severe emotional disturbance.
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is based at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, and provides assessment and crisis-based treatment planning services for individuals in the Emergency Department.
CIT is provided 7 days a week. Monday to Friday 0730 – 2400. Weekends and Holidays 0800 to 2400.
For further information please call 905-433-4384.
