Early Psychosis Intervention Program

The Durham Amaze EPI Program is an outpatient, early intervention service for individuals 14-34 years of age who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Psychosis is a disorder which affects the brain causing a distortion of reality or some loss of contact with reality. Symptoms of psychosis may include delusions, hallucinations, changes in thinking and behaviour and social and emotional withdrawal. The multidisciplinary team of professionals provide assessment, education, intervention and support to individual clients and their families in the office located at Whitby Mall, in the community, at home or at school. The goals of the program are to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, thereby potentially reducing the severity of the illness and enhancing quality of life. The EPI team consists of social workers, a youth worker, a registered nurse, an addiction counselor, an occupational therapist and psychiatry.
